What is
Ride Above T1D
Ride Above T1D is a new Western Australian community initiative dedicated to supporting,
empowering, connecting and inspiring young cyclists living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Empower
By helping remove financial and practical barriers through athlete support grants, sponsorship and participation assistance, Ride Above opens doors to experiences that foster growth, connection and achievement. Whether a child dreams of joining their first group ride, riding down a mountain bike trail for the first time or pursuing competitive goals, we are committed to helping them take the next step and discover what they are capable of achieving.
Support
Every family’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes is different and living with T1D is a journey of constant learning. Ride Above aims to provide educational opportunities, workshops and practical resources that help young people and their families build knowledge and confidence. Through expert-led sessions, peer learning, lived experiences and community discussions, we create opportunities for children and parents to learn from one another, ask questions and gain new perspectives. Our goal is to support families with information, encouragement and real-world strategies that help them navigate the challenges of T1D while participating fully in sport, adventure and everyday life.
Connect
Ride Above creates meaningful connections between young riders, families, mentors and the wider cycling community. Through rides, events, shared stories and peer support, we build a community where children find friendship, belonging and the confidence that comes from meeting others who truly understand.
Inspire
When children see what’s possible with T1D, they begin to believe it for themselves. By sharing stories of courage, adventure and achievement—from everyday wins to extraordinary challenges—we inspire young people with T1D to dream big, participate more fully and embrace opportunities they may never have thought possible. Every rider who climbs a hill, joins a group ride or overcomes a personal challenge becomes an inspiration for the next child following behind.
